Linux Mint 10 reached “End Of Life”

Linux Mint 10 reached “end of life”. The release is likely to continue to work for a few years, but it isn’t officially supported anymore and won’t receive any more updates.

Linux Mint 11 will be supported until October 2012.

Linux Mint 9 and Linux Mint 12 will be supported until April 2013.

The upcoming Linux Mint 13 will be supported until April 2017.

LMDE

I’d like to thank all the people who tested the RC release and sent us feedback. We identified 68 bugs in this release and we’re currently down to 19 bugs left.

Amongst the bugs that were fixed, some affected the way we build our ISO images and the ability for the CD or USB stick to properly boot on computers which mount order changes during the boot sequence. Consequently, the final release of LMDE 201204 and future releases of Linux Mint should work on more configurations and systems where they previously failed to boot.

GDM3 also went under review during this RC release. Its lack of configuration and the fact that users couldn’t select their language were identified as important regressions. A discussion is ongoing within the MATE project at the moment to decide whether GDM2 should be forked by MATE or simply re-packaged within Linux Mint, and whether the codebase for it should be version 2.20 (which is feature-rich, graphically configurable and theme-able) or 2.32 (which provides a better interface). We’re also considering replacing GDM3 in LMDE and Linux Mint 13.

Linux Mint 13

Linux Mint 13 will be named “Maya” and should be available at the end of May 2012.

The codename was chosen a long time ago, after my daughter’s name who was named Maya in reference to:

The Maya civilization
The fictional Maya Toitovna
Maya the Bee

In India, people might also know “Maya” as the “Illusion“.

Note: The choice for this codename has nothing to do with the Mayan Calendar or the notorious cataclysmic interpretations for 2012 (by then we’ll be looking at Linux Mint 14 and a different codename).

Linux Mint 13 should feature separate editions for MATE and Cinnamon. Whether one of these and which of these two editions will be considered the “default” wasn’t decided yet.

NLLGG landelijke bijeenkomst 9 juni

Op 9 juni houdt de NLLGG weer een landelijke bijeenkomst. Linux Mint Nl is uitgenodigd om hier bij aanwezig te zijn / mee te werken.

Via http://blog.linuxmint-nl.org/?p=395 ben ik op jou site terecht gekomen.
Afgelopen weekend is het ook mij ter ore gekomen dat de Linux thema dag 2012 niet door gaat in de geplande vorm.

Nou zijn wij als NLLGG natuurlijk ook best actief.
Daarom wil ik als programma commissie van de NLLGG peilen wat de interesses en de mogelijkheden zijn om een alternatieve Linux thema dag te organiseren tijdens de volgende landelijke bijeenkomst van de NLLGG.

De volgende NLLGG bijeenkomst is op 09 juni 2012, slechts één week later dan de bijenkomst in Bunnik.
Wij houden onze bijeenkomsten in Utrecht [zoals je op de site van de NLLGG kunt lezen] een prima centrale locatie dus.
Mits vroegtijdig geregeld kunnen we bij deze school over diverse lokalen beschikken.
Wij hebben dus al een beschikbare locatie.
Over overige faciliteiten kunnen we natuurlijk altijd overleggen.

Als trouwe LMDE gebruiker zou ik het bijzonder leuk vinden als jullie daar wellicht ook aanwezig willen zijn.

Ik hoor graag even van je wat jou idee hier over is.

Blue Systems gaat Kubuntu sponsoren

Na Linux Mint en Netrunner wordt binnenkort ook Kubuntu gesponsord door Blue Systems

Kubuntu will have a new sponsor in Blue Systems from the 12.10 cycle starting in May. Kubuntu is a community led project to create a KDE flavour as part of Ubuntu. Our sponsor since it started has been Canonical who are now moving to focus on their Unity flavour. Part of this sponsorship makes it possible for Jonathan Riddell to continue working fulltime with the community on building releases of the KDE distribution beyond 12.04.

HCC Linux thema dag 2012 gaat niet door

Gisteren bericht gekregen van de HCC dat de HCC Linux thema dag 2012 niet door gaat.

De release party gaat in de originele vorm niet door. We hebben niet genoeg sponsoren gevonden om uit de kosten te komen. We zijn nu aan het kijken naar een kleinere bijeenkomst bij de HCC in Eemnes. Het is nog niet helemaal duidelijk hoe dit er dan uit gaat zien.
Het programma is nog niet ingevuld, en ik kan me voorstellen dat jullie daar geen belangstelling voor hebben. Mocht je toch belangstelling hebben, laat het me dan weten. Ik zal het dan meenemen in het overleg voor die dag.

Linux Mint NL naar HCC Linux thema dag 2012

Linux Mint Nl heeft bericht van de HCC gehad, we gaan dus naar de HCC Linux thema dag

Hallo Arie

Natuurlijk zijn jullie ook welkom.
Ik had nog niet gereageerd omdat de invulling nog niet helemaal
duidelijk was en nog niet helemaal rond is. Ik begreep via een andere
email vandaag dat je graag een reactie had en die wil ik dan nu ook
graag geven.
De vorige thema dag in Bunnik was er een installatie eiland waar ook een
persoon van Linux Mint aanwezig was. Daarnaast nog 3 aaneengesloten
tafels waar Open Suse en Ubuntu (met OS4FREE) stonden.
Dat liep toen goed, ik heb geen negatieve geluiden gehoord, alleen
positieve. Waarschijnlijk gaan we het dit jaar op dezelfde manier doen,
maar dat kan nog wijzigen.
Ik hoop dat jullie ook dit jaar mee willen doen zodat het weer een leuke
dag kan worden. Mocht je nog andere ideeen hebben of evt
lezingen/presentaties willen geven vanuit Mint NL dan hoor ik dat ook
graag. Ik kan die dan meenemen in de programma commissie.
Kortom er is nog geen definitieve invulling van de dag en zaal maar dat
die door gaat en jullie welkom zijn is wel zeker.

Document Freedom Day 2012

Op woensdag 28 maart 2012 organiseert Document Freedom Day Nederland in de Koninklijke Bibliotheek (KB) in Den Haag, de vierde Nederlandse editie van Document Freedom Day! Dit in navolging van Document Freedom Day 2011, 2010 en 2009. Met presentaties over open dokumentformaten, open standaarden en toepassingen die daarmee overweg kunnen.

Terug naar de Toekomst

Het thema van dit jaar is “Terug naar de Toekomst” De editie van 2012 zal dan ook, in navolging van 2011, worden gekenmerkt door een sterke inbreng vanuit de erfgoedsector. De openheid van informatie en het gebruik van open formaten is in deze sector van het allergrootste belang – in het zicht van brede beschikbaarstelling, openbaarheid van informatie en duurzame toegang.
